A cool front has finally blown into North Texas, and we are all breathing a collective sigh of relief! With no rain in the forecast, we are still not out of the woods, but a break from the triple digits is at least a start.
I write a seasonal newsletter with gardening tips and information for North Central Texas.
If you live in Zone 7/8, you might find it helpful.

Cool...very cool!
Toni :-)
Digging in the dirt already here, not recommended though. Timing never seems to coincide so I just make do and followup on the transplants. A newsletter is a good thing to put out, our Master Gardeners do monthly. Great updates on conditions and how to handle them. A break from the 100's is good, now hoping you get some steady rains.
ReplyDeleteWhat a change in weather for you, minus the rain you so desperately need. I just read your newsletter, very impressive. Great information on planting and pruning, I learned a lot from it even though our seasons aren't exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, Mother Nature, cut Texas a break, send them some nice, refreshing, soaking Showers!
Thanks for the great info Toni! I too hope you get the rain. We're finally getting ours today...I laid awake last night wondering what that strange sound was...I hadn't heard it in months!
ReplyDeleteWonderful info. We are thinking of planting a tree this year. I also want to try my hand at planting wildflower seeds.
ReplyDeleteWe will have to break out the sweaters for this cool front. Going to feel great after the oven hot temps all summer long. Now we just need some rain.
Doesn't it feel fabulous to be under 100 degrees?! I had almost resigned myself into thinking it was going to be that hot forever and ever. Now I realize how far behind on gardening chores I am!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are in Oklahoma too. I hear hot temps will be back next week. Say it isn't so.~~Dee
ReplyDeleteYes the cool temps are great! I started some fall projects this week. Converting more turfgrass into the existing perennial meadow garden. Adding compost to soil and tilling. Ground is hard as a rock! Could use rain here also.
ReplyDeleteToni ~ I enjoyed looking at your newsletter. It has a lot of great information. I will refer to it again...when I am planning. Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your newsletter! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYes the cooler temps have hit the prairie as well. Wish we had as an extensive list for zone 6. Enjoy the Fall.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog when I did a google search for Baltimore Orioles, you had commented on another site. I just wanted to tell you how much I like your photos and interesting posts. We live in San Antonio and have really suffered with the heat this summer, very hard to keep the garden alive! A few days ago we spotted a male and female Oriole on our hummer feeder, we were so excited! We have also put out some bits of fruit mixed with peanut butter, so far they haven't touched it....You have a lovely garden, you must work very hard, your neighbours are lucky to have you living there. Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Toni,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are getting some relief from the heat. I hope you also get some rain. I looked at your newsletter. It sure had lots of details. What a great service you provided.
Hi, Toni ~ I just had a chance to reread your newsletter. I found it VERY informative for getting the garden in gear for fall. This post was better than a lot of my seasonal gardening books...actually. :)Thank you, Amy
